raising kids right
Dela asked:

Angelina Jolie quote: “Brad got me this great thing for Christmas. It’s a bookshelf that has a book on every religion. That’s how we plan to raise our kids. Teach them about all religions. They can pick one or be a student of all of them. We’ll celebrate Kwanzaa for our girl. We’ll celebrate moon and water festivals for our boys. We’ll take them to temples in certain countries. Also to church

That’s excellent.

They have 6 kids. One thing that might be wrong is that it would wear you out to drag all 6 of them to different services every week. I suppose it isn’t bad if you have the staff for it.

I think the children will really get mixed up in what life and God is really about. You should raise them in one religion, or none at all. I don’t think that the childern will benefit from it, either.

That’s nice to hear; an enlightened USian.

Because the only true way is through coming to Jesus, otherwise you are lost.

It sounds a lot better than dragging them to church and telling them they’re going to roast in eternal fire if they don’t do what Jesus says.

It’s also wonderful to honor their cultural backgrounds and teach them about where they came from. Better to let a child choose on their own than manipulate them into believing what you want them to.

Simply that only one religion is the true religion, and parents have the responsibility to raise them in the one true religion. It is very neglectful and irresponsible to expose them to every false religion and let them decide which one to follow. I feel very sorry for Jolie and Pitt’s children. Sheesh, actors, it figures. For me the one true religion is the Roman Catholic faith. It is one, holy, catholic, and apostolic.

I’ve studied many religions from Asatru to Zoroastrianism. I followed Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism, Sikhism, Wicca, Bahai Faith and Deism and all it did was make me bitter, racists, and cynical. That is what is wrong with it.

I was following what she had to say up until she differentiated the religious beliefs based on her kids’ ethnicities. That sounds a little off to me.

well some might argue that your missing the point of the religon
“this is how the world works”
“i dont like all the thou shal nots though”
“okay spin the religon wheel again”
“yay today im pastafarian”

I think this is the way to go. You will find that religious fanatics will disagree for one reason or another. This is a very open minded way to teach your children about God in all his many forms. Commendable.

Ain’t nothing wrong with education.

They want their kids confused evidently!!

Jolie Pitt need much prayers going up on their behalf; that’s for sure.

I think what they are doing is a fantastic idea, I grew up in a house like this and I raised my kids the same way. This is a great way not to push your agenda on children and to allow them to grow and become freethinkers. Making your own choice is better than choosing for them, Years later, many discover the path their parents chose for them was not what they believed so they have changed their belief systems and the parents never quite understand.

Whats wrong!!!!!!!!!! Your kidding right? If you are asking this on behalf of your own kids then you ought to be ashamed of your self. Example: hmmm. let me see if I can expose my kid to every lie on earth, i’ll hide the one true book in the middle of all of them and see if they can’t figure out which one is true. If they don’t then oh well its them going to hell not me. Care for your children people let them know what the truth is first. then later on in life if they ever want to study other religions so they can see what the enemy out there actually believes so they can have ammo against it then thats fine. But like I said make sure they know the truth of the Christian Bible first.

It is not harmful to people to learn of other religions. The problem that comes with teaching a dozen different answers to the same question is the fact that the child will eventually disbelieve them all. And, if Mom and Dad don’t know which one is the true one, then how could you expect the kid to know?

daljack -a girl February 18, 2007 at 2:14 pm

I’m sorry….I don’t think much of this couple.

I’m an Atheist so I have no religious intentions when I say….they should first teach their children then when a person is married they are off-limits to you until they are officially divorced.

The Walkin' Dude February 21, 2007 at 5:48 pm

Brilliant. It’ll make the child a very understanding person.

I’d add science and philosophy books wouldn’t want them to get confused with the conflicting ideologies.

And good ol’ secular literature.

~Haunted~ February 23, 2007 at 6:50 pm

nothing is wrong with it at all.

blondie February 25, 2007 at 11:34 pm

Easy, they are teaching them false religions and they(the kids)will grow up confused. I don’t like Angelina or Brad, they are both despicable human beings who don’t have any idea what morals are.
